Pastor Jaymes Mooney is a dedicated and experienced leader born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He serves as the Senior Pastor of the historic Saint Bartley Primitive Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama, which is recognized as the oldest predominantly African American congregation in the state and one of the oldest in the country. He has also served as Senior Pastor of congregations in Florida and Tennessee.
Saint Bartley has experienced noteworthy growth in his 8 years of leadership, reflecting the congregation’s vision of “Meeting Needs and Making Disciples.” Committed to the Northwoods/ Love Subdivision community, Pastor Mooney has guided the congregation in making significant investments in the neighborhood, including a full campus renovation completed in April 2019 and the acquisition of multiple properties within the neighborhood. With a focus on asset-based community development, he founded “The Bartley Bridge,” a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the community through education, exposure, and entrepreneurship. Pastor Mooney also serves as the Bible Expositor for the National Primitive Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.
Driven by a passion for children and youth, Pastor Mooney has also led initiatives in collaboration with Huntsville City Schools, implementing mentorship programs in three schools, providing literacy tutoring for elementary students, and providing resources for short-term housing and generosity to unhoused families in support of the McKinney-Vento Act. He has also served as a weekly mentor to students at Mae Jemison High School and McNair Middle School, and he has been an active member of the Title One Budget Advisory Committee for Huntsville City Schools.
Pastor Mooney is also an enthusiastic and lifelong learner, a product of Davidson County Schools and Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, where he majored in Religion and Philosophy. He also earned his Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, and is currently in his final year as a doctoral student at Howard University in Washington, DC, with a focus in Leadership. He has been invited to lecture at various colleges and universities, including Belmont University, Boston College, Florida Memorial University, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He has been selected as an Engel Fellow by Princeton Theological Seminary, a Trinity Leaders Fellow by Trinity Church Wall Street, and an Emerging Leader by the Lily Foundation. A passionate advocate for community service, he has been honored by Congresswoman Frederica Wilson of the 24th District of Florida for his leadership in community service.
In May of 2025, he was unanimously elected as the CEO of the Village of Promise, which is a Family Advancement Center, whose mission is to empower children and their families to break the cycle of poverty through education and multi-generational support.
In June 2012, he married his beloved high school sweetheart, Victoria, and they are proud parents to Taylor Noelle and Raelyn Imani.
